Caribbean symposium on inclusive education to held in Jamaica

PARIS, France (UNESCO): A UNESCO symposium on inclusive education in the Caribbean is being held in Kingston, Jamaica from 5-7 December 2007. It will allow Member States in the region to focus on reaching out to the excluded and providing equal access to education.

Countries will share visions, strategies and practices on inclusive education and identify common concerns. This work will pave the way for the 48th Session of the International Conference on Education (ICE, November 2008, Geneva) on the theme %26ldquo;Inclusive Education: The Way of the Future%26rdquo;. The preparatory work is based on the activities of the Community of Practice in Curriculum Development, coordinated by UNESCO%26rsquo;s International Bureau of Education, which helps regions and countries change their curricula within the framework of the EFA goals. The Caribbean symposium is organized by the Jamaican Education Ministry, the UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE) the UNESCO Kingston Office and the Division for the Promotion of Basic Education.
